commission rates and policies:
commission books are currently closed;
please join my mailing list for updates on book status.
I expect to be open for new orders in April of 2008.
With any custom order, a non-refundable, 25% deposit is required to hold your slot, with the remainder due upon completion of the model. With your deposit, please state the color and markings for your model, or artists' choice (always appreciated!). The stated color and markings CANNOT BE CHANGED after work has begun, so please choose carefully!
I prefer that models arrive to me already prepped, in white primer, and ready to paint. My turnaround time is reduced drastically when I receive properly-prepped models to paint! Prepping includes adequate removal of all seams, brand marks and logos, and factory flaws. Primer used must be white, with no obvious brushstrokes or texture; sprayable, sandable primer is best. Carving of ears, hooves, and nostrils is also required if necessary (i.e., the mold-making process obliterated the detail in these areas).
I will also prep models myself for a minimal fee. If a model is described as prepped, but requires additional work upon arrival, I will charge according to my prepping prices, listed below.
My current turnaround time is roughly 3 months per model on Stablemate and Little Bit scales, although this is only an estimate. Larger scales may take substantially more time depending on complexity. I don't like to rush my work, and would rather turn out a quality model than one which was finished quickly. Throughout the processs, you will receive progress reports via email, including photos in many cases. You may also check this page at any time for a quick update.
Satisfaction is guaranteed. I will send progress photos as I work on your model, but if you are unhappy when the horse arrives, I will do my best to work with you and meet your expectations. Refunds, returns, reasonable modifications, and other options are all worked out on an individual basis, and according to the customer's needs.
As the artist, I retain all VARA rights on my paintwork. Click here for a detailed explanation of VARA.
VARA laws grant artists "limited rights to prevent distortion, mutilation, or modification of a work" (see link). This means that I do not allow other artists to make future modifications or changes to any piece which I create. Repairs are permissible as long as the original
vision of the piece remains intact.
If there is a problem with the piece you purchased, or you would like a modification, feel free to contact me, as I will often accomodate such requests, although I do not guarantee this. On the other hand, stripping the paintwork and
repainting the model with a new artist and signature is another issue entirely, and completely permissible should you choose to do so.
I do not offer a guarantee for future repairs on pieces which I sell. Simply put, the transaction is complete once the model is received by the purchaser, and
I am not liable for future damages to the finish. Although I use every means possible to ensure the durability of the horses I paint (proper prepping, good quality primer, multiple layers of sealer, etc), there are too many factors
involved in the new owner's care (i.e., humidity, temperature, methods of storage, handling methods, carelessness, packing methods, etc.) to ever conclusively determine if the damage
was caused by one of these factors, or by the nature of the finishwork itself. Therefore, I want to stress that custom model horses are pieces of fine artwork and should be treated and displayed as such to avoid any damage. That being said, you can always contact me if a model is in need of repair; I will often be happy to repair the model for a small fee.
Solid colors = any basic horse color, white markings up to the hocks/knees, and light dappling (i.e., dapples limited to the barrel or flanks)
Listed prepping fees do not include old-mold Breyers, raw or 2nd quality resins, or Eberl resins. I do not offer prepping for these pieces, sorry.
Please contact me regarding pricing on "in-between" scale models.
Complex colors = Extensively dappled or complicated colors (i.e., dappled grey, silver dapple), sooty colors, roans, pintos, and appaloosas
